Gender Inclusion Policy
Broomstones welcomes curlers of all gender identities and expressions.
Our Commitment
Broomstones Curling Club is committed to providing a fully inclusive environment for curlers of all gender identities and expressions. We believe every person should be able to participate in the sport they love without barriers or discrimination based on gender.
League Participation
Broomstones follows USA Curling guidelines for gender-based league participation:
- Open leagues welcome all participants regardless of gender identity.
- Mixed leagues use self-identified gender to determine team composition requirements. Participants are placed based on their stated gender identity — no documentation or verification is required.
- Women’s leagues or events (if offered) are open to all participants who identify as women, including transgender women and non-binary participants who are comfortable participating in a women’s-identified space.
- Men’s leagues or events (if offered) are open to all participants who identify as men, including transgender men and non-binary participants who are comfortable participating in a men’s-identified space.
Non-binary and gender-nonconforming curlers are welcome in any league that best fits their identity and preferences. If you are unsure which league is right for you, please contact our Membership Coordinator — we are happy to help.
Respectful Address
All members and guests are expected to use the names and pronouns that individuals request. Intentional and repeated misuse of a person’s name or pronouns is a violation of our Code of Conduct.
Facilities
Broomstones encourages all members to use the facilities — including changing areas and restrooms — that best align with their gender identity. We are committed to maintaining a safe and dignified environment for everyone.
