Scot Tour

2017-02-05

The Scots Are Coming!

The morning of Sunday, February 5th, Broomstones will be hosting the Scotland "2017 America Tour" team.

This team is made up of 20 male curlers that come over to the USA to compete for the Herries Maxwell trophy every 10 years.  This will be their last day of their competition.

The Scots will be arriving at approximately 8:30am and depart after having competed and had their lunch.  Feel free to greet the Scots and be there to meet them as they come off the bus.

The Scot Tour was started in the 1800’s, GNCC vs Royal Caledonian Curling Club (RCCC).  They play every 5 years, with a tour of 5 teams touring across the country for some fine curling, spirits, and camaraderie.  On the years the Scots come to the US, it usually starts in Seattle and plays in clubs across to the East coast over a period of 3 or 4 weeks.  On other years the US sends 5 teams to Scotland to do the same.   The score is tallied from the total scored points per side across all games.  The winning side gets their name on the Herries-Maxwell trophy and keeps it until the next tour.

No players are ever accepted on the team twice.

There are Scots tours for both Men and Women, and Both Canada and the United States have Scots tour events.
