Junior Nationals 2023 - Volunteering

VOLUNTEERING

If you'd like to be a volunteer at the 2023 USA Curling Junior Nationals at Broomstones Curling Club, we'd love to have you help! Volunteer Hours for this event can be used against Membership suggested volunteer hours!  Below is a list of tasks we could use your help with during the week of events:

 

Admissions

Admissions - Watch the door 

  • Check credentials and wrist bands to admit people to the event
  • Check IDs for All Sessions passes for valid pass holder and age over 21 (for the bar)
  • Keep yourself busy

Kitchen

Kitchen Help  - Creating food for volunteers and some spectators

  • Create a simple menu for food to be served to volunteers, and some spectators
  • Creating boxed lunches and dinners, labeling them for pickup
  • Food prep, meal creation based on provided menus
  • Must work clean and be a frictionless part of the kitchen team

Opener and Closers

Opener / Closer  - Open / Close Club each day of competition and make sure it is competitor-ready. Duties include:

  • Open / Close doors, ensuring they are set for the day
  • Light cleaning, vaccuming to make sure the space is presentable and proper
  • Reset all seating to original positions for the day
  • Answer questions, direct traffic
  • Food setup / takedown
  • Be the first in or last to go in the warm room spaces

Timers - Nearly full

Timers - Time the game using laptop provided with training and assistance from USA Curling officials

  • Watch the game from start to finish, identifying moments of “play”, “thinking time”, “time outs”, and other moments.
  • Training will be provided, as will a video demonstration prior to the event
  • No certification or "official class" is required for this role
  • Curlers of all experience levels can manage this role
  • Timers need focus on the game

Ice Team - Nearly Full

Ice Team - Help manage the creation and maintenance of the Best Ice in the East!

  • Working with the Head Ice Technician on all tasks related to the ice

Coordinator Roles

Volunteer Coordinator –  Manage volunteers for the event. Duties include:

  • Editing existing sign-up pages (will train)
  • Driving volunteerism at Broomstones, and coordinating with other sources of volunteers (list in place)
  • Coordinating with USA Curling and the Chairs to meet needs during the event
  • Coordinating with volunteers to make sure they show up and know what they’re doing when they do
  • Ensuring that volunteers have a great experience at JN’23
  • Identifying a Volunteer of the Event to be included in medal presentations
